Assistant Managing Director of Jumper Competition Programs

The Assistant Managing Director of Jumper Competition Programs is a member of the USHJA’s management team within the Sports Department responsible for the development and implementation of jumper oriented programs. This position is responsible for the management and maintenance of various committees, department and professional relationships, and the development and growth of jumper competition programs and services within the Association. The assistant managing director will work closely with management and staff across the Association (e.g. hunter competition programs, regional member services, education programs, and others). In addition, this position will work with representatives from the United States Equestrian Federation in the planning and implementation of USEF championship events such as North American Junior Young Riders Championships and Pony Jumpers. Current programs this position will administer are Emerging Athletes and the Zone Jumper Championships. This position will also be responsible for the management and professional development of other team members within the Sport Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy and Leadership :

Provide strategic leadership in the development, management and implementation of jumper programs and services
In coordination with other departments analyze existing sports program and services, and collaborate with leadership and staff to develop and execute strategies to address issues
Provide strategic counsel to staff, Sports Director, and Executive Director, and Committees
Provide leadership, mentorship and oversight for department team members.

Serve as staff support for and between the USHJA volunteer leadership, various committees, and USHJA departments in the development of programs and services
Manage administrative workflow and budgets related to planning, development and implementation of programs and services

Guide committees and volunteers in complying with USHJA policies and procedures
Other sport program duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Team Development/Management:

Coordinate and manage jumper sport programs and services with others
Promote and demonstrate a culture of excellence, teamwork and service for the departments, association and committee members
Function as a mentor and provide professional development opportunities for staff
Work with staff to develop goals, objectives, etc., and monitor performance and provide regular feedback as well as conduct annual reviews and identify opportunities for advancement.

College degree and a minimum of 3-5 years work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and expertise
Experience must include planning, management, leadership and mentoring others
Knowledge of the equine industry, preferably the jumper discipline, through participation as a competitor and/or involvement in competition management/administration
Demonstrated skill in proactively engaging and developing relationships with diverse groups of individuals
Extensive experience and success managing projects and programs to a successful completion
Experience managing and developing a team of individuals and/or working with a cross department team
Creative in approach to services and programs, and comfortable using new technologies and tools to engage audiences
Experienced in managing competing priorities
Possesses excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
Possesses strong written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills; ability and

Possesses strong computer and office machine skills. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and able to utilize the Internet. Understands basic PC concepts (files, file paths, copying and pasting, deleting and moving files).
Other Requirements

Some travel required either by air and/or automobile. Overnight stays and weekends may be required.
