Required Education
High School Diploma or GED required College course work preferred. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older by May 1, 2017.

Required Related Experience
Experience in applicant’s identified program areas of interest preferred

Required License/Registration/Certification
First aid and CPR certification required for all interns.

Applicants applying for an aquatics internship requires a lifeguard certification. For all other intern positions, the appropriate certification and training is provided.

Physical Requirements
Ability to walk and work for long periods of time in an outdoor setting in various weather conditions, lifting of 25 lbs or less, working 10 to 12 hours per day, residing on site for several days at a time. This is a physically active position.

Shift
40-50 hours per week; some weekends required.

Job Summary
Internships are available working under the direction of Extension professionals (Camp Director) for the following positions:

AQUATICS (lifeguard): plan conduct, and evaluate educational classes for campers at residential summer camp. Prepare detailed progressive lesson plans for instruction in swimming techniques, swimming and sun safety, canoeing, kayaking, or boating skills and lakefront safety techniques, including at least 2 lesson plans for rainy day classes. Intern is to be competent in presenting these lessons to youth attending camp.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION: plan, conduct, and evaluate educational classes for campers at residential summer camp. Prepare detailed, progressive lesson plans for instruction in outdoor education, natural resources, water quality, wildlife, native species, tree and plant identification, and fishing including at least 2 lesson plans for rainy day classes. Intern is to be competent in presenting these lessons to youth attending camp.

CHALLENGE COURSE: plan, conduct, and evaluate educational classes for campers at residential summer camp. Prepare detailed, progressive lesson plans for high challenge course and low challenge course instruction in team building, character development, leadership, climbing techniques, and climbing safety including at least 2 lesson plans for rainy day classes. Intern is to be competent in presenting these lessons to youth attending camp.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (recreation): plan, conduct, and evaluate educational classes for campers at residential summer camp. Prepare detailed, progressive lesson plans for instruction in group dynamics, healthy living, music and dance, leadership development, and team building including at least 2 lesson plans for rainy day classes. Intern is to be competent in presenting these lessons to youth attending camp.

SHOOTING SPORTS (archery and rifles): plan, conduct, and evaluate educational classes for campers at residential summer camp. Prepare detailed, progressive lesson plans for instruction in gun safety, bow safety, shooting techniques, range commands, and eye dominance including at least 2 lesson plans for rainy day classes. Intern is to be competent in presenting these lessons to youth attending camp.

EQUINE: plan, conduct, and evaluate educational classes for campers at residential summer camp (West KY 4-H Camp only). Prepare detailed, progressive lesson plans for instruction in horse grooming and care, handling, saddling, riding, and safety techniques including at least 2 lesson plans for rainy day classes. Intern is to be competent in presenting these lessons to youth attending camp.

CAMP PROGRAM EDUCATOR (program assistant): plan, conduct, and evaluate educational classes for campers at residential summer camp. Prepare detailed, progressive lesson plans for instruction in a variety of classes based on the programmatic need for each camp session in areas of aquatics, shooting sports, or challenge course. Based on the class, camp program educator intern will prepare detailed, progressive lesson plans for instruction in swimming techniques, canoeing, kayaking, or boating skills, safety techniques, bow safety, shooting techniques, range commands, eye dominance, leadership development, and team building. Intern is to be competent in presenting these lessons to youth attending camp.

Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups and individuals. Ability to plan and teach educational programs. Demonstrated leadership and ability to serve as a positive role model.
